Opening Day for the Orcas Island Yacht Club will be held on Sunday, one day later than the "normal" Opening Day, so more people can participate. Sailboat races will be held on West Sound, a BBQ will be held at the OIYC Picnic Shelter and the Parade of OIYC boats will take place on West Sound. In keeping with tradition, the parade will be led by the Rear Commodore's boat, Chesapeake, followed by the Fleet Captain Cruise's boat, Mei Wenti, then power boats from the longest to the shortest, then the Fleet Captain Sail's boat, Chinook, and then sailboats from the longest to the shortest. The Opening Day themes are "Red, White and Blue" and "Underwater Adventure." You can decorate with either theme or combine them and go with a "Red, White, and Blue Underwater Adventure." That opens up all kind of possiblities. The Opening Day Pilot, John MacLeod, will provide additional details on Opening Day activities in the April OIYCTER. Here's hoping we have a warm day with sunny skies. But, regardless, this is always a fun day! If you are going to participate in the boat parade, please email or call John MacLeod and provide your boat name, whether it is power or sail and its length. Thanks. |
