OIYC Spring Cruise to Roche Harbor
Join your fellow mates at this traditional OIYC annual event. Great food, fine friends, and great wine makes for a great combination. Mark & Beth Gasser have graciously signed on to help plan this event with us and make it memorable for all!
This popular cruise commences on Friday, April 13 through noonish on Sunday, April 15. A few cruisers/sailors show up on Thursday for extra camaraderie. Please let me know if you intend to come on Thursday.
Please call "Troy", the Roche Harbor Master on channel 78A on arrival. he will guide you to your slip. Moorage fee, to be settled directly with Roche Harbor, is $1/ft/night and includes 30 amp power. 50 amp power $10 additional per night. Note there are excellent shore side bath facilities. Some Roche Harbor vendors have historically extended discounts to OIYC members attending this event. If you are buying something in one of the shops please mention you are with OIYC.
Meet at the Party Barge for “chart hour” followed by a “heavy hors d’oeuvres” PotLuck. Including live entertainment courtesy of Beth Gasser's Ukelele group and band, courtesy of Len Rickie! Hawaiian dress and straw hats to welcome Spring!
9:00-10:00: Informative talk by US Customs/Homeland Security including updates/changes regarding issues with boating to and from Canada, organized by Gordon Crowe.
10:00-12:00: USCG Auxiliary/Power Squadron Safety Inspections, organized by Lew Thomas, Chief Medical Officer. These are great for peace of mind that your boat is in compliance with federal and state requirements. 100% free of charge. Done at your mooring, individual time determined Saturday AM by the cruise pilots.
14:00-15:00: Fleet Captain Sail, Jimmy Roser, will conduct a seminar for cruisers who wish to learn how to help with Race Committee duties or for anyone who wishes to have a refresher course.His goal is to recruit those in the club who would like to participate in the many club races and in particular, Round The County.
15:00-16:00: Chief Medical Officer, Lew Thomas, will provide a lecture on AED use, a skill that will help save lives.
1700:Chart Hour (Party Barge). Bring your drinks and let's begin the party!
1800:BBQ Steak Dinner (Party Barge) Please see Debbie/Ben McLeod or Beth/Mark Gasser if you would be willing to help set up and serve. Expert grill masters will be: Vaughn Ploeger, Jeff Johnson, Chris White, and Craig Carpenter!
TBD: Pre-departure Bon Voyage Breakfast will be aboard m/v Avanti, graciously hosted by our Treasurer, Diane Jarecki and assisted by Gwyneth Ploeger.
Note: The price for the Saturday night steak dinner and Sunday breakfast will be based on actual costs, and is estimated to be $22/person. To be collected after arrival at Roche Harbor.
