Sadly, it is to be reported that Rebecca Earnest has passed away having lost her battle with cancer. Rebecca was an avid sailor and a very active OIYC club member and served on the OIYC board as Fleet Captain Sail in 2008. She will be greatly missed.

Rebecca was born June 11th, 1941. She graduated from High School and College in North Carolina and worked as a book and magazine editor in New York and Washington D.C. In 1972 she moved to Seattle to continue her career as an editor. Shortly after moving to Seattle she meet Vaughn Ploeger and the two became lasting friends. In 1986 Rebecca graduated from the University Washington Law School and she began her new career in Law.

In Seattle, Rebecca was an active member of the Seattle Woman's Sailing Association and crewed on numerous race boats in the Seattle sail boat racing circuit.

In 1984 Vaughn and Rebecca bought some property on Orcas together as an investment which eventually was the place they built their retirement home in 2002. They became married in 1997. Vaughn and Rebecca sailed their Merit 25 to many victories in Seattle and locally and they were very proud to have won the 2009 OIYC Spring Regatta together.
