We are a small yacht club that is located in the middle of one of the most beautiful sailing and cruising grounds on earth, The Salish Sea. We are so very fortunate to get to cruise and sail in these pristine waters—and we are always on the lookout for new members.
Our club is made up of a fine bunch of kindred sailors who share a common love of boating and the water. Many of our members have a deep and lifelong experience with the sea, while others are relative newbies—so whatever your history, as long as you like “messing around with boats”, the Orcas Island Yacht Club is the place for you.
Organized boating activities include sail and powerboat cruises all about the Salish Sea, from South Sound to northern B.C. and beyond, twice-a-week sailing races with our J70 and Martin 242 fleets, as well as club sponsored regattas such as the Eastsound Spring Regatta, and the Round the County Race.
Recently, our club was deeply honored by being named by U.S. Sailing as the “One Design Yacht Club of the Year” —an award that shows the growth and commitment of our racing fleet, who can be seen out practicing even in the cold dark months of December and January. In addition, another area of immense club pride is the sponsorship and support of our outstanding youth sailing program —Sail Orcas— ensuring the creation of the next generation of sailors.
Our club also has a lot fun on land, with our full schedule of social events such as barbeques, wine tastings, theme parties and potlucks, community service projects and boating and educational classes. We also take an avid interest in preserving and protecting our marine environment, through participation in organizations such as the Sailors for the Sea— with their Clean Regattas and Green Boater initiatives— and the Islands Oil Spill Association so that we are prepared if an emergency were to happen.
So—whether you are a beginning boater or a veteran, own a yacht or not, live on Orcas part-time or full, we invite you to join our merry band of boaters, and become a member of the Orcas Island Yacht Club.
